Playboy Channel Debuts Monday on Sirius Satellite Radio

NEW YORK – Playboy is slated to make its debut on Sirius Satellite Radio Monday, marking its official migration from XM Radio after several years.

Catering to a strong male demographic, Sirius’s Playboy Radio (channel 198) will feature a range of Playboy-branded shows, including a live morning broadcast with Hugh Hefner from the famed Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, Calif.

Other programming for the channel will feature the daily “Playmate Hour,” the live call-in show “Afternoon Delight,” “Sexy Stories” and “Night Calls Radio,” with Tiffany Granath and Christy Canyon.

The Playboy channel will be “opt-in” only for subscribers either over the phone or Internet. Sirius also offers a parental control option to block the show from underage listeners.

Other new programs targeting Sirius’s female demographic include a Martha Stewart Living radio channel, in addition to a four-hour talk show to be hosted by “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell.

The 24-hour satellite radio company, which already features an estimated 125 channels has been the darling of the satellite world since its launch and has quickly overshadowed XM as the satellite radio station of choice. The company said it expects to significantly ramp-up its subscriber base this year partly based on the success of its “Howard Stern Show.” Stern jumped ship from CBS to Sirius in January to escape constant airtime scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission.

The new Sirius lineup also includes Fox News, at channel 131, and the Blue Collar Comedy on channel 103, which stars Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, Kathleen Madigan, Lisa Lampanelli and Ralphie May.

Sirius’s new lineup will take effect at 5 a.m. (EST) on March 14.
